Founder's Day | Ramjas College

Rai Saheb Lala Rai Kedarnath | (1859-1942)

Lala Rai Kedarnath sought voluntary retirement from the office of District Judge and founded a school in the memory of his father, Lala Ramjas Mal, in 1912 in Delhi. He also worked as the secretary of the Hindu College and pulled it out of grave financial crisis. Earlier he had displayed the same death-defying service spirit in fighting plague epidemics during 1904-05 in Jhung-Maghiana, Punjab. The pinnacle of his life was his decision of Sarvaswadan when on December 25,1916, he and his wife Mrs. Ganga Devi entered into a state of total non-possession. As the Principal of Ramjas College, he played crucial role in founding and shaping the University of Delhi in its early phase. He worked tirelessly between 1912-42 and spread a network of Ramjas Institutions throughout Delhi.
Lala Rai Kedarnath's tyag-tapasya, his indomitable will-power, untiring hard work, and above all his practice of Karmayoga has always remained a guiding and driving force in our onward march to selfless social service. We once again rededicate ourselves to the hoary tradition of our Founder and take solemn pledge to keep the lamp of learning lit by him, burning as ever.

Hail Ramjas pays its tribute to Lala Rai Kedarnath Ji for his tireless contribution in the field of Education.
